This shop is where all of the knives, axes and hatchets are made!!
Todd Trulock Knives was founded in 2020 during the COVID19 craziness! :) We were all stuck inside and I got bored...so...I think I'll start making knives! Since I love knives, it seemed like a great idea and I'm still loving it!
We moved from Jacksonville FL to Waxahachie TX in the Summer of 2022. I didn't move my previous Anvil (they are heavy you know!!). So, I bought another anvil and made my own stand. This is the finished product.
I'm actually an engineer by degree and a "construction guy" by profession. I work in engineering and have managed construction projects for most of my "full time job". I started making knives in March 2020 when COVID hit and shut down everything! Since then I've made over 100 knives and truly enjoy the process of making them, sharing them and there's nothing I enjoy more than having them used and enjoyed by a happy new owner! They really are SUPER SHARP...no REALLY SHARP!!!
Every knife I sell is handmade by ME! Nothing is pre-made or aftermarket...it's all original. I use a mix of stock removal, an anvil and the Double T Forge on every blade I make.
Each knife starts as a rough piece of steel that gets cut, hammered, sanded into the basic knife, then drilled for the pins and weight distribution, heated above non-magnetic (1560 Degrees F) in the forge before immersion in oil to harden the steel. Then I temper the steel at 450 Degrees F to make it ready for handles, finishing and the sheath.
Axes and Hatchets are usually made from stock removal. Meaning, I find very old Axes and Hatchets and re-shape them to what I want, install a new handle and then finish (over-strike, wood burning for grip and decoration, oiling to protect, etc...).
I use a mix of Natural Hardwoods, Antler and Synthetic Materials for knife handles. Pretty much anything you can think of I can make!
I am a big fan of hardwoods and tend to use them extensively because of the natural look and longevity of the finished product. Typical hardwoods such as Wallaba, Bloodwood, IPE, Purpleheart, Sapelle, Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, Black Walnut, Cherry, Ash, Hickory, many burl woods, and so on.
I also use synthetics such as Micarta, G10, Poly Resin, etc...
If something special is wanted in a handle material I can work with you no problem. Each handle is profiled, hand sanded and hand finished. All wood is hand oiled and finished by hand.
All of my blades are made one-at-a-time, hardened in the forge and then oven tempered to obtain the right hardness so they retain sharpness, have good strength and durability. Each blade starts as a piece of steel that gets cut and hammered into the basic knife shape, holes drilled for the pins and weight distribution, heated to red-hot (above non-magnetic of 1560 Degrees F) in the forge before immersion in oil to harden the steel. Then they are tempered at 450 Degrees F to make it ready for handles, finishing and the sheath.
This process makes an incredible cutting edge that is easy to re-sharpen when needed and has durability to hold up great for many uses.
All of my knives are available with either a Leather or Kydex sheath in left or right-hand versions. They are custom fit to your exact knife. Every sheath is handcrafted and made by hand by me. For leather, I use quality, 8 to 9 oz, veg tan leather and a sturdy saddle stitch. Each are oiled for a lasting antiqued look.
